VIDEO: 2017 Shad Run and Big Cats on the James River

by Josh Dolin

With the annual Shad Run in full swing here in Central Virginia, my buddies Grant, Max, Chris and I are hitting the water every chance we get. Shad fishing is an absolute blast. These fish are powerful, aerobatic, and are present in vast numbers. They move up the James River here in Richmond to spawn, only to get bottlenecked by the whitewater within our city limits. Thus, presenting a unique feeding opportunity for all fish species to take advantage of, most profoundly the Blue Catfish. The James River is known worldwide as one of the best fisheries for giant Blue Cats. In this video we have an awesome day on the water with too many Shad to count and Grant has a run in with one of those big, beastly Blues!
